Comparison to other population genetics simulation programs
FFPopSim aims at begin simple and efficient. There are a number of other program
that allow the user to specify more complex evolution scenarios or have been designed
for a particular research questions. The simuPOP website maintains a
list of such programs.
The main differences of FFPopSim compared to those tools are:
- FFPopSim can model the full genotype space for few loci
- FFPopSim is can be used from the scripting language Python (as simuPOP),
allowing for great flexibility and interactive sessions.
- FFPopSim can handle complex epistatic interactions between loci.
- FFPopSim can handle arbitrary genetic maps (in haploid_lowd)
- FFPopSim exposes and documents the whole C++ library for advanced
users and specialized applications (such as the readily implemented
HIV simulation package)
FFPopSim is the only flexible program (we know of) that can simulate the full-genotype space.
